Sensei Taylor Spencer – Master Instructor

Sensei Taylor Spencer is a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Shotokan-Kempo Karate and an active practitioner of Gracie Humaita Jiu-Jitsu. Dedicated to lifelong learning and continuous growth, he currently trains under Master Trevor Lewis, actively working toward his 3rd Degree Black Belt in Karate. Under Professor Lewis's expert guidance on the mats, he is also actively training toward his Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, anticipated in July 2026. A passionate Masters Division competitor, Sensei Spencer has earned multiple gold medals across both disciplines, including a major victory at the 2023 Ontario Provincial Jiu-Jitsu Championship. He is a certified coach under the Ontario Jiu-Jitsu Association and proudly leads the Kontact Martial Arts Competition Team at events across the province.

Sensei Spencer reignited his passion for martial arts in 2018 under Renshi Mike Ferdosi, 6th Dan Headmaster of Canam Karate Newmarket. Renshi Mike’s mentorship and family-oriented dojo culture left a profound impact, inspiring Sensei Spencer to cultivate an environment at his own academy where every student feels welcomed, supported, and part of something truly meaningful.

A devoted husband and father of three, Sensei Spencer wanted his children to experience the same positive upbringing he found in martial arts. After moving to the Midland area and finding limited training options, he took the initiative to open Kontact Martial Arts Academy to provide high-quality Karate and Jiu-Jitsu to local families. Today, his children train alongside him; his two boys hold Black Belts and continue to practice Gracie Humaita Jiu-Jitsu. Their shared training has strengthened their family bond, just as it does for the many families who join the Kontact community.

Leading by example, Sensei Spencer trains daily and consistently expands his knowledge through seminars with world-renowned martial artists, including Bill "Superfoot" Wallace, Royler Gracie, and David Adiv. Beyond the dojo, he is a dedicated community leader, having taught self-defense seminars for local charities and seniors, including working with Breaking Down Barriers in Collingwood, Ontario. He is also fully certified in First Aid and CPR/AED Level C.

At Kontact Martial Arts Academy, Sensei Spencer’s mission is clear: to make martial arts accessible, fun, respectful, and empowering for everyone. His energetic teaching style, compassionate leadership, and deep technical knowledge draw students of all ages. He is deeply committed to helping each student grow—not only as martial artists, but as confident, respectful individuals. Under his guidance, many students have achieved and surpassed goals they once thought were out of reach.

We are more than a dojo. We are a Martial Arts Family. Join us and start building lifelong memories on the mats.
